Conquering Cancer: A Commitment For the Ones We Love

Cancer is always very personal. Ever since the tragic death of their almost-four-year-old daughter, Robin, from cancer, President George H. W. Bush and Mrs. Barbara Bush have been inspired and motivated to fight this terrible disease. Robin’s passing was a turning point in their lives, stirring their lifetime commitment to do whatever they could to bring an end to cancer.

Nearly 12 years ago, President and Mrs. Bush helped create C-Change, then known as the National Dialogue on Cancer. For well over a decade they have co-chaired this unique nonprofit organization, dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major public health burden at the earliest possible time. Their steadfast leadership and power to convene cancer leaders from the private, public, and nonprofit sectors continues to work effectively today to foster dialogue and collaborative action across the wide spectrum of cancer issues.

As an expression of deep appreciation and admiration of the strength and leadership of President and Mrs. Bush, C-Change has created an exhibit at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum in College Station, Texas. It is titled Conquering Cancer: A Commitment For the Ones We Love, and it officially opened on November 9. 2010.

The six-panel exhibit, designed by Lynch Exhibits of Burlington, NJ and led by a C-Change Advisory Committee chaired by Peggy Conlon, President & CEO of the Advertising Council, Inc., highlights the lifelong commitment of President and Mrs. Bush and the collaborative strength of the many cancer organizations that make up C-Change.

Visitors will learn about the tremendous progress made in the fight against cancer since Robin’s death; take away knowledge of how everyone can reduce cancer risk; and be inspired to get personally involved in this fight at home, in their communities, and at a national level.

The final section of the exhibit features an interactive kiosk. There visitors may select topics to learn more about and request a follow-up email with links matching their interests.
